SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN ELDERLY RESPITE CARE CENTRE AT COMMUNITY
The construction of the Aged Care Facility represented the first major project that the Anangu Communities Foundation committed to, and was identified as the priority need by members of the Community after extensive consultation. The facility was opened in 2007 providing 16 beds, full-time care and state-of-the-art nursing facilities.
A COMMUNITY PLACE
In 2017, the Foundation partnered with Australian Regional & Remote Community Services (ARRCS), Anangu Jobs and Higgins Coatings to renovate the old respite centre into the 'Community Place'. The project included training and employment of local community members. The re-purposed building now provides a base for delivery of social and healthcare facilities.
MARUKU ARTS IRMANGKA-MANGKA PRODUCTION FOR COMMUNITY
During the community shutdown period due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation supported ‘Maruku Arts’ to deliver a project that involved sourcing and producing traditional healing balm ‘Irmangka-mangka’ for distribution to the community.
The project not only created employment opportunities but also delivered health benefits in the form of a traditional bush medicine highly valued by Anangu as a healing agent for many illnesses, particularly respiratory problems.
WANMARRA HORTICULTURAL PROJECT AND TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE
The Foundation funded horticulture project at the remote Wanmarra community of NT region, promoting environmental sustainability and healthy living while increasing local enterprise opportunities for Anangu.
